Danish Modern style is epitomized by dark wood furniture with clean lines that merge form and function in a most appealing way. It came into its own from 1940 to 1960. Over recent years Danish Modern designs have made a comeback with original vintage pieces being much sought after. Some Danish designers and their work you may easily recognize:

Arne Jacobsen—Egg, Ant and Swan Chairs

Hans Wegner—The Chair and Papa Bear Chair and Ottoman

Verner Panton—Iconic Panton Chair

Finn Juhl—Pelican Chair and Model 45 Chair

Borge Mogensen—Prolific furniture designer. He showed the world Danish Modern.

Kaare Klint—The “father” of Danish Modern

The Danish designers mentioned above are just a few of the many furniture makers that contributed in small and large ways to the success and staying power of Danish Modern style as we know it today. Not all pieces are made of wood, however. Mention the Panton Chair or the Egg Chair and an overwhelming majority of folks will know exactly what you’re talking about.
